Dhanatrayodashi, Narakchaturdashi, Amavasya
(Laxmi Pujan), Balipratipada and Yamadvitiya (Bhaubeej) are the five days which
comprise Diwali, and each day has a peculiar religious significance. |
|
On the last day is Bhaubeej, a
traditional brother-sister occasion. Sisters invite their brothers for a meal.
They perform an aarti and pray to the Lord for the well-being of their brother,
who is their Protector. In return, the brother bestows the sister with gifts.
Those who do not have a brother perform a sort of puja to the Moon-God. The
Bhau-beej puja is performed in any case. Basundi-poori or shrikhand poori is
the special sweet prepared for the occasion. '. |
